In the shadow of the Great Depression, NFL Commissioner BERT BELL(Opens in a new window) (pictured above) devised a plan to maintain competitiveness in his league. Still a scrappy pastime carving out its role in American culture, professional football was in need of a selection process that would diversify talent among its nine NFL teams.

On this day, Feb. 8, 1936, the first NFL draft was held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia. Bell’s idea called for an organized distribution of talent where teams with a worse record would have a prioritized choice at the top college prospects.

Pat McAfee, ESPN bringing show to Pro Football Hall of Fame | Pro Football Hall of Fame

Pat McAfee and ESPN are bringing his popular daily show to Canton, Ohio.

The midday host of “The Pat McAfee Show” made the announcement on his broadcast shortly after noon today. He and his team plan to broadcast from the historic front steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, beneath the iconic Rotunda dome, on Thursday, July 31, only a few hours before the National Football League kicks off its 106th season.

Myles Garrett claims sack record; other milestones from 2025 NFL season | Pro Football Hall of Fame

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett wrestled down Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter of their Week 18 matchup for his NFL-record 23rd sack of the season. Garrett passed Hall of Famer MICHAEL STRAHAN(Opens in a new window) (2001) and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt (2021), who previously shared the record with 22.5 sacks in a season sacks. The record-breaking sack also tied Garrett with Hall of Famers DeMARCUS WARE(Opens in a new window) and REGGIE WHITE(Opens in a new window) for the most games with a sack (79) in a player’s first nine seasons.

Jason Myers caps record-setting season with record-setting Super Bowl | Pro Football Hall of Fame

As the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots schematically stifled any explosive offense Sunday in Super Bowl LX, Seahawks kicker Jason Myers submitted a record-setting performance to complete a prolific season.

Myers scored 17 points after connecting on all five of his field-goal attempts and two extra points, setting Super Bowl records for both points scored by a kicker and made field goals. Of his 17 points, 12 came in the first three quarters and comprised the only scoring for either team through nearly 47 minutes of play.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald’s Salute to Service hoodie, Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride’s gloves and “1923 Classic”(Opens in a new window) Packers uniform headline recent artifacts placed on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Museum.

Macdonald, representing his family’s ties to the U.S. Armed Forces, wore his Salute to Service sweatshirt and hat in Seattle’s 44-22 win against the Cardinals on Nov. 9, 2025. Macdonald’s father graduated from West Point and served in the U.S. Army (1971-1977) while his grandfather served in World War II and his aunts served in Vietnam as nurses.
